Molecule
IL-4
Type-2 cytokine involved in Th2 differentiation and B-cell class-switching contexts.
Also called: interleukin-4, IL-4, IL4

In short
- 1What it is: a molecule in molecules and receptors.
- 2How it connects: acts on 2 and is affected by 4 concepts — mostly 5 cell, 1 disease.
- 3Where it sits: signalling, response, target on the 15-step immune chain.
What it does
IgE class switching; Th2 differentiation; IL-4Rα/γc (Type I receptor, haematopoietic cells) OR IL-4Rα/IL-13Rα1 (Type II receptor, non-haematopoietic, also binds IL-13); dupilumab (anti-IL-4Rα) blocks both IL-4 and IL-13 simultaneously via shared Type II receptor
