Biomarker
ANCA
Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies: PR3-ANCA (cytoplasmic pattern, c-ANCA) in GPA or MPO-ANCA (perinuclear pattern, p-ANCA) in MPA; IgG produced by B cells; binds cytoplasmic antigens expressed on surface of cytokine-primed neutrophils → FcγRIII activation → vessel wall destruction.
Also called: c-ANCA, p-ANCA, PR3-ANCA, MPO-ANCA

In short
- 1What it is: a biomarker in research methods.
- 2How it connects: acts on 1 and is affected by 3 concepts — mostly 2 cell, 1 disease, 1 therapy.
- 3Where it sits: biomarker, failure on the 15-step immune chain.
What it does
RAVE trial: ANCA titres fell to undetectable in 90% of rituximab responders → pharmacodynamic proof that B cells produce ANCA.
