Molecule
IL-6
Cytokine involved in inflammation, acute-phase responses and B-cell/plasma-cell biology.
Also called: interleukin-6, IL-6, IL6

In short
- 1What it is: a molecule in molecules and receptors.
- 2How it connects: acts on 5 and is affected by 1 concepts — mostly 1 cell, 2 pathway, 3 disease.
- 3Where it sits: signalling, consequence, target on the 15-step immune chain.
What it does
IL-6R → JAK1/TYK2 → STAT3 → acute phase (CRP, fibrinogen), Th17 differentiation (with TGF-β), osteoclast activation, T cell exhaustion in TME; clinical safety: anti-IL-6R suppresses CRP production → patients can have severe infection with NO fever or elevated CRP, patient education mandatory; lipid monitoring at 4-8 weeks (LDL rises)
