Molecule
Complement C3
Central complement protein: all three activation pathways (classical via immune complexes, lectin via mannose, alternative via microbial surfaces) converge on C3 convertase → C3b (opsonin) + C3a (anaphylatoxin, mast cell activator).
Also called: C3, complement component 3

In short
- 1What it is: a molecule in molecules and receptors.
- 2How it connects: acts on 3 and is affected by 1 concepts — mostly 1 molecule, 1 pathway, 1 disease.
- 3Where it sits: recognition, signalling, biomarker on the 15-step immune chain.
What it does
C3 consumption (low C3) = SLE disease activity marker (especially LN); together with C4 and anti-dsDNA, tracks LN flares.
